For some reason my earlier comment was
removed -- no doubt because Anne Marie doesn't want people finding out the truth about her salon. But since my experience was so negative (traumatic is more like it), I think other people should know what they're getting themselves in to. PLEASE READ AND KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GETTING YOURSELF INTO.
Anne Marie is the worst teacher I've ever had because she is highly unskilled and mean. She continuously belittled me with statements like how are you ever going to get a job doing it like that, this is crap, your parents should be disappointed in you, don't waste my time, etc. I noticed that she did this to a lot of the other students as well and this created a very hostile working environment. The students then became mean toward each other, there was a lot of competition, and everyone wanted to please Anne Marie so cliques developed. Also, and this is why I say the experience is traumatic, she constantly talked negatively about the customers behind their backs and would have us do it to. One time, a black woman came in and didn't want Anne Marie to cut her hair so she asked for me because I'm also African American. Anne Marie pulled me aside and whispered wreck that woman's hair but style it so she won't be able to tell until she gets home. she has n*gger hair so won't be able to tell anyways. Keep in mind that I'm ALSO an African American woman. I got mad and told her that she was being inappropriate. She told me to leave the salon but as soon as I left to go to my car, she came out started swearing at me for making her look bad in front of her students and customers. Then (and I am so serious) she STARTED HITTING ME! I knew better to slap her back so called the police and filed a report.
As you can see, the experience was so traumatic. As a result of Anne Marie, I no longer want to be a hair stylist. She completely ruined my self confidence. On top of that, when I did try to get a job after leaving her salon, I was told by EVERY SINGLE SALON that she has a bad reputation in the area for not teaching students well. Her skills are outdated. She doesn't prepare students well at all.
I know this review seems pretty scathing. I could care less about Anne Marie since I believe in karma. But I do think potential customers and students should know what they're getting themselves into. I was fooled by how nice Anne Marie was in the beginning and how she was quick to brag about herself, her salon, etc. But something is very off about this woman and this place. There are many other beauty schools in the area that are professional, will prepare you well, and will treat you like an actual human being. And more importantly, as an African American woman and someone who values equality, I WILL NOT be patronizing a place that is so obviously racist and discriminatory.
My dad, before he went to the Ann Marie Beauty School, looked like a mess and his hair was too long and had no style. But now, after going to the Ann Marie Beauty School he looks great and his hair looks fantastic. The Anne Marie Beauty School did an awesome job and I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to make themselves look like new.
A Student Kelsey did a great job on My Hair . I Love it so much its one of the best hair cuts i had done and the tips she gave to help keep my hair healthy was good id come back :)
HORRIBLE - CONSTANTLY SUED BY STUDENTS.
I am also a former student of Ann Marie's so I know first-hand how much she rigs these reviews by giving incentives to her STUDENTS for writing them. She did not teach us anything valuable during our time there and instead would complain about how the school didn't have any business, which she told us we could change by writing these bogus reviews. DO NOT BE FOOLED by them. They are written either by Anne Marie or her students, not actual customers -- which is why so many of them attack the negative reviews. Ann Marie is a very greedy and manipulative teacher. She doesn't care about the professional advancement of her students and offers little to no career development or placement. I had a really hard time finding a job after finishing the course because every salon I went to told me I didn't know how to cut hair, which is odd because I was one of her "best" students. When I finally found a place that would hire me, I HAD TO LEARN EVERYTHING OVER AGAIN.
Simply put, Anne Marie doesn't have the skills to be teaching anyone. She is constantly getting sued by students -- the judge ruled against Ann Marie in at least two cases. She gets by with a manipulative personality that comes off as charming even though she is most concerned with getting people's money. Spend more time with her and you will know that she is a very, very mean and angry person. I always felt bad for the customers coming in because they were getting their hair cut by very inexperienced and poorly trained people. So many times I saw customers' hair get ruined --- which was somehow covered up or styled over. Anne Marie told us to lie to clients and tell them their hair looked nice even if we messed up. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Spend the few extra dollars and go somewhere that's not a complete waste of money.
Great Experience. Very satisfied!! The facility is beautiful. Ann Marie's hard work has paid off. Def NOT out dated as someone else stated. Her hands on work with her students is amazing. I had a pedicure and a perm done by her student. The perm was a "down the road idea" but the student was willing to take the time to make it happen in the same visit. Couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you Ann Marie and Meagan for a great visit. I'll be returning and referring for sure
