Tips for Monro Muffler Brake & Service

November 30, 2012

Terrible service. I had been going there for several years but this October I went to have my Volvo inspected and they found various codes that they could not understand (as I learnt later). Instead they made me spend over $1000 and still could not fix it till I finally had to take it a month later to the local Volvo dealer who fixed it in a matter of hours. Monroe used computer programs that did not correspond to anything in Volvo. DO NOT GO TO THEM!

Never been so thankful. I have never found a car shop that I relied on so much for everything. The crew at Vestal Monro is a great crew. I drove to the mall one day last winter, and accidentally rolled down my back window, with my luck, it wouldn't roll back up. So i called vestal Monro and they said they would look at it. George (who has been there since i can remember) sat there for 20 minutes trying to roll it back up after taking my door apart. It worked, he got the window up, and then he unplugged the motor to the window so i wouldn't do it again. My car is a 1996 Camry and has well over 200,000 miles on it. I know it won't last forever, that's why I go to Monro. They will tell me what is wrong with my car, and if I can't afford it all at once, I ask which is the most crucial to fix first. They don't FORCE you to do the repairs, but they are required to tell you whats wrong. I will ALWAYS take my car to Vestal Monro as long as they are around. Thank you Vestal Crew!!!

Avoid. Horrible service selling you things you dont need and braking things on your car.

Better Business Bureau rates them an F on a scale of A+ to F and there not AAA accredited.

Search these sites and get Referrals from friends and family.Dont get ripped off.

Complete ripoffs.. I normally don't go to chain service centers because I find them very dishonest compared to independents. Took my car here because it was the closest and it was an emergency. They estimated $1000 for the repair, I had it moved to another shop for a second opinion and they fixed the problem for a grand total of $260.

Very happy with my experiences here. I'm not sure why others had such a problem here! I've taken my car to this location several times and experienced nothing but honesty and excellent customer service. They have all been friendly, personable, and provided a quality service. Kudos to Doug and his staff.

terrible place, don't go to Monro in Vestal. This is a horrible place!! Never go there!!! They push you to spend money. Specially, never do your state inspection there!!! They will fail your good car, and then force you to do unnecessary repair; if you don't , you are out of the 20 something inspection fee nevertheless (by the way, I believe this is the most expensive around town). I also suspect they cheated on charging me some repair which they didn't do, but I don't have solid proof on that. Believe me, never go there. I should have read the previous review earlier.

They are not honest to customers: overcharge labar fee and especially part price.. Never go there!!! They are rude and not honest to customers.

My car is nissan altima. I went to monro to check engine since the engine light is on. The check fee is $71 which is high than others. That's fine since it close to my workplace and I still decided to check it. Later they told me the problem came from oxygen sensor which control fuel injector. It will cost $350s. I asked them for discount. But they said it was final price and pushed me to do it and said if I didn't do it my car will have big damage or total broken. I said I will check the price within other places. I called nissan dealer for the price: the sensor is $148 and laber is $65 (one hour service). I called the monro again and asked the detail about part's price and laber fee. First they didn't like to say. I said I have right to know the detail before do the service. Later they told me the parts price was $248 and laber fee is $121 (one and half hour service) which was almost double than others. I ask them which vender did they order the part? But they won't like to tell me. I checked the price for the parts at different places which is around $148 and on sell will be $101. We can clearly see the Monro overcharge for the laber fee and dishonest for the parts price. I also asked them for checking report. But they said they haven't any report for checking because I didn't decide to get next service. So I decided to go to another place although I have already spent $71 for engine checking.

Never, Never, Never go there.
